During cargo transportation by sea, road or railway, damage may occur for many reasons:

  •  Careless or unsuitable handling during loading discharging or trans-shipment operations
  • Shifting during shipment
  • External eventsGeneral unforeseen incidents

A survey of the damaged cargo is necessary to ascertain the possible causes of the damage, investigate the possibilities for repair or recovery and more importantly, to calculate the final damage assessment. Cargo condition surveys may be done at any stage, before or after the shipment, for verification purposes or to provide an early indication of potential defects.

In specific, VIC can ascertain and quantify the damages on all cargo types during:

  • loading;
  • discharging;
  • stowage;
  • re-working.
